Programs

Swimming Program

Every student in ECS to Gr. 3 has the opportunity to participate in the school sponsored swimming lessons offered by the Grande Cache Recreation Department. The swimming program consists of 10 lessons offered by certified instructors.

Student of the Week

Every student is given an opportunity to participate in the ‘Student of the Week’ display. Information about the student and prized possessions are displayed in the hallway cabinet for one week.

STAR Student Assemblies

Each month the achievements of students are recognized during a brief, whole-school assembly. Every class gets the chance to host the assembly and present something they have been learning whether in song, dance or speech. Parents will be notified when their child or child’s class is being featured and invited to attend.

School Dress Up Days

Sheldon Coates puts on monthly school-wide dress up days where staff and students are encouraged to participate

Special Presentations

Each year a variety of presenters and performers pass through the doors of Sheldon Coates. We have watched hoop dancers, ventriloquists, ballerinas, musicians, actors, authors, sculptors, and many more in our gymnasium and our classrooms. Students have had the chance to put on drama performances, create clay projects, and much more.

Reading Nights

Once or twice a year Sheldon Coates staff put on a reading night. Families come to school in the evening and rotate through four different classrooms to listen to a story and make a fun craft. These events are well-attended and thoroughly enjoyed.

Holiday Activities

Various activities go on during the different holidays at school. These include an evening Christmas concert, constructing gingerbread houses, passing out valentines, pizza/hot dog days, and school-wide field days.

Literacy Activities

Classes participate in activities such as Books and Breakfast (parents are invited to attend), Chips and Chapters, buddy reading with Summitview school, celebrity readers, Literacy Place (multi-grade leveled reading), and various multi-class literacy activities.
